Week 7: T+P+C+K = TPACK

In our final lecture prior to this being logged I can see how our learning has progressed through the TPACK model. After revisiting the questions I posed in week one it is obvious to see the learning journey I have made when I can now go back to those questions now with answers.

Week one saw us being introduced to the techonologies. Week two was our introduction to technical pedagogical content knowledge. In week three, we experienced how this technical knowledge actually looks in a classroom when we communicated with the Year 2 Gems. Week four had us looking at the different types of pedagogies and theorists relating to different pedagogies. Week five detailed how we would engage effectively with technology through productive pedagogies.

Week six had us doing activities which was cementing the knowledge acquired over the past five weeks. We were presented with problems or barriers to learning and were asked to provide solutions to these problems. In addressing these issues we were considering what technologies could be used and what pedagogies could enhance this style of learning. Content wasn’t a key focus, however given the nature of the TPACK model, it most definitely is considered when discussing solutions to these barriers. Our knowledge of technology, pedagogy and content therefore provided us with a practical activity to practise and enhance our ideals of working in real life situations.

Typical of an IT expert’s mindset, Jason had us looking beyond the present time frame and had us collaborating about issues that we may be faced with during our professional teaching career. This signifies where our mindset needs to always be…not stuck in the now, but thinking about other alternatives and solutions to current models or ideals. Using technology to enhance this will be the key to our success and our student’s success ultimately rides on the back of this. My aim is produce 21st Century learners that are keen to explore, engage and question everything and to find solutions to those questions.

It is obvious from a select few in our course that I am now a part of a professional network team who can collaborate and share information with each other which will assist us to continually keep abreast of information in this ever changing fielcd of technology. To do this on my own would be too time consuming and I simply would not have access to the range of resources. Being connected to a supportive productive professional network is motivating as this has the potential to enrich my professional career through increases in my own productive or digital pedagogies and enhance the learning outcomes for all of my future students.

Thankyou for the learning adventure Jason.

Week 6: K for Knowledge

In today’s lecture Jason emphasised the TPAC model, showing us how we can link technology to content and pedagogy. I really enjoyed the game Jason played with us and got us thinking about the relationships within this model. I feel very confident talking about content, however there are so many technologies and pedagogies it’s hard to know which one is most appropriate.

As an ICT Certificate holder (I’m being optimistic!), the TPAC model is something that I will endeavour to embed in every possible framework that I can. I appreciate the fact that technologies can enhance learning and student engagement, so it would be omit of me to ignore the TPAC model.

This week Jasmine and I will be concentrating on blending the technology, content and pedagogy into our 10 minute video successfully in order to demonstrate our understanding of how these three concepts support and enhance the learning in our classrooms. Jasmine has overcome the technological glitches relating to video conversion software (yeah Jas) and we have our xtranormal script relating to our pedagogy and our slides relating to our content ready and waiting to be edited. The video portion involves Jasmine’s son using the technology component. I’m excited to see how he found using the Dimension software and am interested to learn what his strengths and weaknesses were.
